Remembering Frank Fritz: One Year Later, Danielle Colby Reflects on the Heart Behind American Pickers
As the one-year anniversary of Frank Fritz’s passing approaches, American Pickers star Danielle Colby is opening up about the profound impact his absence has had on the show’s close-knit family. In a moving and candid interview, Danielle reflected on the cherished memories she shared with Frank—moments both on and off camera that continue to echo through the halls of the show.
“Boy, we miss Frank,” Danielle said softly. “We miss his laughter. We miss his sense of humor. That was the glue that held us together.” She recalled Frank’s quick wit and sharp humor, which became a welcome light during long road trips and early mornings filming. “He had this really sharp, quick wit that always kept things light, especially when we needed it most.”
Frank co-hosted American Pickers with Mike Wolfe until 2021. He passed away on September 30th, 2024, at the age of 60. His cause of death was listed as a stroke caused by cerebral vascular disease, with other contributing health conditions. The suddenness of his passing left fans and longtime colleagues stunned.
Danielle shared intimate details about Frank’s personality, highlighting his emotional depth. “I miss those rare moments when he’d open up emotionally, ask for advice, offer a hug, or call just to talk. He was someone who didn’t show that side often, but when he did, it meant a lot.”
At the time of Frank’s death, Danielle paid tribute on Instagram, writing:
“Frank, I will miss your ability to make everyone laugh, your love for tattoos, your collections, but most of all, those glimpses of vulnerability. You loved your mama, and you loved your cat. We bonded over that. Rest in peace, Road Dog.”
Although Frank’s later years were marked by personal challenges—including a public fallout with Mike Wolfe and struggles with alcohol—Danielle emphasized that these difficulties never defined him. “He was so much more than what people saw on screen.”
Before his passing, Frank and Mike reportedly reconciled, bringing some peace to a fractured friendship that had once been central to the show’s identity.
Danielle summed up the sentiment shared by many: “A huge loss for the Quad Cities’ community, a huge loss for us, and honestly, a huge loss for the world.”
As fans continue to mourn, one thing is certain: Frank Fritz left behind far more than just a collection of antiques. He left behind a legacy of laughter, heart, and unforgettable memories that will always be part of American Pickers—and the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
