Deadliest Catch Legend Captain Keith Colburn’s SHOCKING Health Scare – Is This the End?!

Captain Keith Colburn: A Legend Tested by Sea, Struggles, and Survival
Captain Keith Colburn has weathered more storms than most men will ever face—on deck and off. From commanding the FV Wizard through some of the roughest waters on Earth to battling addiction, divorce, and life-threatening health scares, his story is one of unbreakable resolve. Now, as 2025 begins, the question looms: will this be the year Keith hangs up his captain’s hat for good—or is there still fuel in the tank?
From Greenhorn to Fan Favorite
Keith Colburn became a household name in 2005 with the premiere of Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel. Known for his no-nonsense leadership style and fierce loyalty to his crew, Keith quickly stood out as one of the show’s most respected and influential captains. While others might have folded under the pressure of Bering Sea conditions, Keith thrived—earning both the admiration of fans and the respect of fellow captains.
But success came at a cost.
Personal Sacrifices and Silent Battles
Keith married Florence Colburn in 1987, and together they raised two children, Sienna and Sailen. However, the pressures of long seasons away from home and the toll of the lifestyle strained the marriage. In 2014, after 27 years together, the couple divorced. Keith later admitted that his struggles with alcoholism played a role. “I nearly lost everything,” he shared in a candid interview. But instead of sinking, he chose to fight—rebuilding his life, reconnecting with his children, and working side-by-side with his brother Monte aboard the Wizard.
A Near-Fatal Wake-Up Call
Keith’s toughest battle came not from the sea, but from within. In 2018, he was diagnosed with osteomyelitis—a severe spinal infection that forced him to sit out the 2017–2018 crabbing season. It was the first time he had ever been sidelined, and it shook him deeply. Though he recovered, the incident marked the beginning of a series of health setbacks that would test his resilience.
Then, in October 2024, another frightening episode. While at sea aboard the Wizard, Keith suddenly lost consciousness and experienced numbness on his left side. Monte acted quickly, rushing the vessel to shore so Keith could be medevaced to Anchorage. Doctors ruled out a heart attack but suspected a mini-stroke (TIA). The exact cause remains unclear, but the uncertainty has cast a long shadow over his future on the water.
2025: A Captain’s Resolve
After months of recovery and reflection, Captain Keith Colburn is back at the helm of the FV Wizard. Despite lingering concerns about his health, Keith refuses to step away from the profession that has defined his life. “The sea has tested me in every way possible,” he said recently, “but I’m still here.”
His return is nothing short of remarkable. Fans, crewmates, and fellow captains continue to rally behind him, inspired by his grit and determination to keep going despite the odds.
The Big Question: How Much Longer?
As Keith continues into the 2025 season, many are asking: how much longer can he keep going? Will another health scare finally force him into retirement? Or will his relentless spirit keep him on deck for years to come?
Only time—and the Bering Sea—will tell.
