Mike Wolfe Announces First Major Break from American Pickers in 15 Years to Pursue New Ventures

After nearly two decades on the road and in front of the camera, the face of History Channel’s hit show American Pickers, Mike Wolfe, is taking his first significant break from filming in 15 years. The longtime host revealed he will be stepping back from the series for four to five months to explore new career opportunities and prioritize personal growth.

At 60 years old, Wolfe is using this hiatus to reflect on his past achievements and future aspirations. In a recent interview with People, the TV personality shared that this extended pause marks a sharp departure from the show’s usual short breaks during the holiday season. “I need this break,” Wolfe stated candidly, citing the demanding nature of his work over the last two decades.

Wolfe emphasized that while American Pickers has been central to his life, he’s ready to embrace new creative challenges. Among them is a new History Channel series titled History’s Greatest Picks. Staying true to his roots, the show will spotlight historically significant finds, enriched with archival footage and potential reenactments.

Beyond his work in non-scripted television, Wolfe has also made his foray into acting. He stars in the recent film A Day of Reckoning, which premiered in March. The movie features Wolfe alongside his girlfriend, Leticia Klene, and actor Billy Zane. Set within a gritty, outlaw motorcycle narrative, the film allowed Wolfe to merge his passion for vintage motorcycles with a new form of storytelling.

The decision to take a break comes amid a noticeable dip in ratings for American Pickers. The latest season premiere attracted 565,000 viewers, with only a slight increase for the finale. Even the highest-rated episode of the season fell short of the numbers seen during earlier years, especially when Wolfe’s former co-host Frank Fritz was part of the show.

However, Wolfe’s pause is more than a reaction to ratings—it’s a strategic pivot. Alongside his new television roles and acting pursuits, he continues to manage his antique stores and vacation rental properties, further expanding his entrepreneurial portfolio.

As American Pickers takes a well-deserved rest, fans can look forward to experiencing a new side of Mike Wolfe—both on screen and beyond—as he writes the next chapter of his storied career.
