Vegemite with Crabs” Sets Sail: Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm Gets a Comeback in Hilarious New Playthrough

In a nostalgic deep dive back into one of the grittiest fishing sims of all time, Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm is getting a second wind—and a new star vessel: the mighty Vegemite with Crabs.

A content creator has embarked on a new YouTube series revisiting the cult classic game, originally released in 2008 (not 2001 as they suspected). After battling compatibility issues to run the game on Windows 11, the creator launched a brand-new career mode, choosing the fan-favorite Cornelia Marie as their starter vessel—but with a cheeky Aussie twist: renaming it to the now-iconic Vegemite with Crabs.

“It took me ages to get this running on Windows 11… but I think I’ve finally done it,” the creator said, clearly relieved but excited to set sail.

💪 From Greenhorns to Crabbing Legends

Kicking things off on easy mode, the crew was assembled carefully, balancing full-share veterans with greenhorns and multitaskers. Roxanne, a speedy recruit, took on dual roles as chef and deckhand. Josh, a greenhorn with solid first aid skills, became the team’s medic and bait boy. And Nick, with decent leadership and a 7% cut, took charge as deck boss.

Fuel and bait were topped off, pots were loaded, and the crew launched into King Crab season with 150 pots ready to hit the icy waters.

Despite early hiccups—including an untimely electrical breakdown just after the first pot drop—the crew managed to lay their first string of pots. Some were dropped late, and the captain admitted to overworking the team, drawing in-game warnings about fatigue and morale.

“I just want to get the run done, but everyone’s falling asleep,” they said, watching as tired crew members slumped below deck.

But the real challenge began with the first haul: 63 keepers from the second pot, 75 from the third, and a consistent stream of 60+ crabs per pot had the captain in high spirits.

Each successful pot was set back, gambling on even bigger hauls in the next round. The plan? Maximize yield, minimize downtime, and make it back to Dutch Harbor with a full load and crew intact.

🎯 “Deadliest Catch” Done Right

With dramatic weather yet to come and the full season ahead, the playthrough promises more chaos, crew drama, and big crab hauls.

“I know this episode’s long, but I wanted to get the whole lot done,” the creator said at the end of episode one. “If you want a full series, let me know—though I’ll probably do one anyway!”

Whether you’re here for the gameplay, the comedy, or the nostalgia, one thing’s for sure: Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm is back, and Vegemite with Crabs is leading the charge.
