Josh Harris Fired from Deadliest Catch, Ending His Reality TV Career
Josh Harris, once a prominent figure on Discovery Channel’s reality series Deadliest Catch, will not be returning to the show anytime soon. The disgraced captain has been fired, and his career in foreign and American reality television now appears to be over.
Harris is making headlines for deeply troubling reasons. According to Washington State court records, when Josh Harris was 16 years old, he committed a serious sexual crime against a four-year-old girl. The victim was reportedly a neighbor and the daughter of a deckhand. Due to Harris being a minor at the time, he avoided harsher sentencing but did serve nine months in custody and underwent court-ordered psychotherapy.
The resurfacing of this information has brought severe consequences. Discovery Channel has officially cut ties with Harris, and he has been removed from all Deadliest Catch–related projects. Sources suggest the decision was driven by the show’s emphasis on teamwork, morale, sportsmanship, and social responsibility. Continuing to associate with Harris was seen as sending the wrong message to viewers and society at large.
This marks a dramatic downfall for a fisherman from whom much more was once expected. Josh Harris learned commercial fishing at a young age from his late father, Phil Harris, a legendary captain who played a major role in Deadliest Catch and captained the Cornelia Marie. After Phil Harris’s passing, Josh took over the vessel, carrying on the family legacy.
There is little doubt that Josh Harris proved himself to be a skilled fisherman and capable boat captain. Each new season of Deadliest Catch brought high expectations, and his résumé grew stronger over time. He appeared in several spin-offs, including Deadliest Catch: Bloodline, and was often favored by showrunners.
Despite facing personal struggles—including battles with drug addiction around 2016–2017—Harris was given time off by the production team to seek help. After a year-long hiatus, he returned in 2017 and remained a key part of the franchise until 2022.
However, the recent revelations have ended his association with the show entirely. Industry observers note that not only is Josh Harris’s future with Deadliest Catch finished, but his broader television career is effectively over.
Once seen as the heir to a legendary fishing legacy, Josh Harris’s fall from grace serves as a stark reminder that past actions can resurface and permanently alter public careers—no matter how much time has passed.
