Reicubas, HOT then COLD then HOT AGAIN DEADLIEST CATCH Crab Kaiju!
Hello Kaiju fans.
Welcome back to the Kaiju World Order.
My name is MM, and this is Monster of the Week as voted on by members of the Kaiju Huckbox Discord server.
There should be a link in the description of this channel.
And let’s get right on into this.
This week’s monster is none other than Raiky Boss, the boss crab from Ultraman Dyna.
The very first Ultraman monster—well, the very first kaiju in Ultraman Dyna anyway—to actually defeat Dyna one-on-one.
Raiky Boss is an alien crab kaiju that was brought to Earth by a squid-like octopus alien that was using it to help melt the Arctic ice, which would then flood the Earth and give this alien full control of the planet.
Now, Raiky Boss never uses its ability of generating that much intense heat in battle.
It can be assumed that it can just increase its body temperature or lower it to whatever it needs to be in order to affect the environment.
But in battle, Raiky Boss really primarily relies on fireballs that it launches from its mouth.
These are pretty average in strength and nothing to write home about.
Yeah, they would definitely one-shot some weaker monsters like Kamacuras or possibly even Amanda or something like that.
But their real power is actually in their range.
Raiky Boss was able to shoot space fighters out of Earth’s orbit from Antarctica without missing a shot.
That is some 2004 Godzilla-level aim right there.
Then he has his ice mist attack, which is exactly as it sounds.
It’s pretty much an even better version of Baragon from Gamera vs. Baragon.
This ice mist pretty much flash-froze Ultraman Dyna and handed Raiky Boss the win well before Dyna could even get the battle going.
Now, this ice mist does appear to pretty much just freeze the opponent solid, and that’s it.
So Raiky Boss was then just hanging around until Dyna was actually thawed and able to revive and once again fight him.
However, it does seem that Raiky Boss’s ice mist may take some time to recharge.
When round two broke out, he just relied on his fireballs, his claws, and pretty much just battering Ultraman Dyna around.
Dyna eventually turned into his Miracle Mode, perhaps sensing that Raiky Boss was about to break out the ice mist again.
Raiky Boss did just that as Dyna took to the air, dodging it, then coming down and slamming into Raiky Boss like a bullet.
As Raiky Boss recovered, Dyna hit him with his beam, which virtually sucked Raiky Boss into a black hole.
So Raiky Boss was done.
He never made an actual comeback.
He has since been part of the kaiju chimera Five King, where Five King uses Raiky Boss’s claw along with his head for an arm.
However, Five King never uses any of Raiky Boss’s powers specifically.
Now, when we drop Raiky Boss into a world of other monsters besides just Ultraman ones, he would actually stand a pretty good chance.
He’s not going to be an upper-tier monster.
He’s not going to do anything that could take on a Heisei Godzilla.
He wouldn’t be that much of a threat to even Showa Godzilla in his prime.
But Raiky Boss could definitely find a place on Monster Island with Kamacuras, Kumonga, and monsters like that.
His main threat is the ice mist, of course, which could potentially one-shot a lot of monsters just like Zebra’s beam could in prior weeks.
The problem is that he doesn’t bust it out right away, which is a flaw a lot of monsters have when they possess a one-hit kill ability.
Raiky Boss’s fireballs are okay, but they’re not going to do any lasting damage to heavy hitters.
By the time he gets the ice mist out, depending on who he’s facing, it’s either not going to work right away or it’s just going to be too late.
There might even be arguments to be made for some monsters not being affected at all, such as superheated monsters like Burning Godzilla or other freezing monsters like Shimo.
So Raiky Boss is definitely a threatening monster in the long run.
Still not up to the level of SpaceGodzilla or Destoroyah, but I would definitely rank Raiky Boss around Showa Ghidorah.
And that is really it, kaiju fans.
Raiky Boss only had two appearances in Ultraman Dyna, so there’s not too much to explore here.
Very cool crab monster.
One of my favorites.
Underrepresented.
He should make a comeback.
I was hoping we would see him return in Ultraman Decker, but nope.
Until next time, kaiju fans, peace out.
And MM, take care.
