American Pickers on Hiatus After 15 Years: Mike Wolfe and Danielle Colby Pursue New Projects
For the first time in 15 years, American Pickers is taking an extended hiatus, marking a significant pause for the long-running History Channel favorite. The show, which has followed antique expert Mike Wolfe and his co-star Danielle Colby across America in search of forgotten treasures, has become a staple for fans of history, nostalgia, and unique Americana.
“We haven’t done that in 15 years, so that’s going to feel good,” Wolfe told People in March, referring to the much-needed break. “For 15 years, we have just been going and going and going,” he added, noting that the longest break the cast and crew had taken previously was a month around Christmas.
This time, Wolfe said the team would have at least four to five months off, giving everyone time to recharge and refocus.
New Ventures and Career Shifts
Both Wolfe and Colby are making use of their hiatus in different ways.
Mike Wolfe has been busy expanding his career beyond picking. In February, he made his film debut in The Reckoning, signaling a shift toward acting and storytelling. The following month, he announced a new project with the History Channel titled History’s Greatest Fix with Mike Wolfe. The show, which does not yet have a premiere date, promises to combine Wolfe’s passion for discovery with a strong narrative focus.
“They asked me to do another show, and I felt that it was on-brand with what I’ve been doing for the last 15 years,” Wolfe explained. “In one hour, we’re going to cover four different stories. It’s about picking, it’s about discovery—but the bottom line is, it’s very story-based, like my show has always been.”
In addition to his media projects, Wolfe also operates two short-term rental properties, one of which opened in May, further diversifying his business portfolio.
Danielle Colby, who uses they/them pronouns, has also been branching out creatively. They recently opened the Ecias Arts Museum in Davenport, Iowa, a space dedicated to the rich and often overlooked history of stripping. Colby, also known by their burlesque stage name Danny Diesel, continues to perform and advocate for the performing arts, sharing bold and empowering content with their followers.
Their provocative performances and unapologetically expressive looks have made waves on social media, keeping Colby in the public eye even while American Pickers is off the air.
Will American Pickers Return?
As of now, the History Channel has not officially confirmed a premiere date for American Pickers Season 28, nor has it announced whether the series will return at all. Fans remain hopeful that Wolfe and Colby will return rejuvenated and ready to hit the road once again.
Until then, both stars seem focused on personal growth, new ventures, and well-deserved rest after more than a decade of non-stop filming.
