American Pickers producers issue new update after reaching lowest all-time ratings
American Pickers had seen a massive slump in ratings for the 26th season, but it seems viewers are giving the show another go amid a huge update from producers
The new season of American Pickers is finally seeing some success after suffering the lowest all-time ratings, with the stars getting ready to film brand new episodes.
Season 26 of the History Channel show had been struggling to attract fans and reached the lowest all-time ratings, but there was a massive surge in viewers for last week’s episode, The Toy Godfather. In the show, Mike Wolfe and Jersey Jon traveled to Chicago to look through a four-floor home which was filled with expensive antique toys.
Promoting the episode with a series of photos on Instagram, Mike wrote, “Felt so good to be back in the Chicago area. Come take a ride with us tonight to see what one-of-a-kind pieces Jersey and I will dig up—anything from folk art to high-end German toys.”
The Toy Godfather pulled in mammoth viewing figures as 623,000 viewers tuned in for the episode. It was the highest-rated episode of the season, according to The U.S. Sun.
The rise in viewership comes as producers revealed filming will begin in February for brand new episodes. “Do you have a unique collection? The Pickers are heading to SOUTH CAROLINA and NORTH CAROLINA this FEBRUARY, ready to dig through rare, unique, and historically rich treasures,” a post read on the show’s Facebook page.
It continued, “They’re searching for private collections filled with fascinating items and captivating stories. If you or someone you know has a hidden gem waiting to be discovered, let us know, we may just find our next big pick!”
Despite the good news, some fans weren’t happy and called for the show to end. “I’ve loved Pickers since the very beginning but it seems so set up and contrived now, I expect a lot of it was set up going back to the Frank days but it seem obvious stuff is set up for them to “find” and Jersey always having to give a retail number (guess) is painful to watch, put it to bed guys you’ve made your money,” one person fumed in the comments.
Another wrote, “The Pickers are finish for ever! – Same Pawn Shop!” while someone else said, “American Scammers.” A fourth person joked, “I think you guys found everything, there’s nothing left!”
The comments come after months of disappointment for American Pickers. The episode before The Toy Godfather brougt in just 521,000 viewers. Meanwhile, the November 6 episode had 547,000 viewers.
One episode titled DIY Delorean brought in the lowest figures of the season, with just 442,000 viewers. The second episode of the season, Wolfemen vs. The Automations, also struggled and brought in a mere 463,000 viewers.
In contrast, the premiere episode of last season brought in a whopping 723,000 viewers, with 676,000 tuning in for part two. Episode three had 880,000 viewers.
