Deadliest Catch’ Star ‘Wild’ Bill Wichrowski Reveals Emotional Health Update Amid Cancer Battle
Captain Wild Bill Wichrowski Shares Encouraging Health Update Amid Ongoing Cancer Battle
Fans of Deadliest Catch received uplifting news this week as Captain “Wild Bill” Wichrowski offered a candid update on his health following his prostate cancer diagnosis. Known for his resilience, grit, and no-nonsense leadership on the Summer Bay, Wichrowski has been open about his battle—using his platform to raise awareness and inspire others facing similar challenges.
In a recent Facebook post, the beloved captain revealed that his current treatment plan is producing positive results. He explained that he is undergoing radioactive seed therapy along with hormone treatments, both of which appear to be working effectively.
“Numbers are great, not complaining—purely for information,” he wrote, reassuring fans that he is responding well to the therapy.
While the outlook is promising, Wichrowski didn’t shy away from acknowledging the difficult side effects of hormone therapy. The treatment has caused his testosterone levels to drop “to near zero by design,” significantly affecting how he feels day to day. Even so, he noted that he seems to be cancer-free at the moment—news that thrilled his supporters.
Despite the physical and emotional challenges, the 67-year-old captain remains characteristically optimistic. He reflected on how his demanding work on the Summer Bay has always kept him feeling younger than his age.
“I have always felt 10 to 15 years younger than my age. The job I have and being around crew half my age—feels like the clock has caught up. Maybe a small price to pay.”
Wichrowski closed his message with gratitude and an important reminder:
“Thanks for concern and best wishes. If you have symptoms, get checked.”
A Public and Inspiring Fight
Wichrowski was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2020, publicly sharing the news during the Deadliest Catch Season 19 finale. He later allowed cameras to capture his journey throughout Season 20, giving viewers an intimate look at the realities of fighting cancer while continuing to do the work he loves most—fishing.
In a preview for the season, he recalled the mindset he adopted the moment he heard the diagnosis:
“You know what? I’m not going to stop fishing. I’m going to keep going until I actually can’t.”
Rather than letting the disease define him, Wichrowski pushed forward, determined to demonstrate that a cancer diagnosis doesn’t mean life has to come to a halt. He explained that he received messages from countless fans reacting to the news, many worried about the symptoms he might face.
But he was resolute:
“There’s no way.”
By sharing his journey, Wichrowski hoped to inspire strength and perseverance in others facing similar battles.
“I was hoping that the fact that I kept going would show people that if you have this, you can keep working. You can keep your life moving. I wasn’t going to stop unless I had to.”
A Fan-Favorite Fighting Spirit
Wichrowski joined Deadliest Catch in Season 13 back in 2017 and quickly became a standout figure thanks to his fearless leadership and straight-shooting attitude. With Season 20 wrapping in October 2024, fans are eagerly awaiting news about the show’s future.
For now, the most important update is a positive one: Captain Wild Bill is winning his fight.
His journey continues to show viewers around the world that resilience, determination, and a positive attitude can make all the difference—even when facing life’s toughest storms.
